scorotron:

hvps failure error. usually marked as scorotron 0,1,2- on the machine it appears as 1,2,3. so #2 error in the software is really #3 on the machine. because of the variables connected to this unit, it is important to open a call and ask for assistance. this is a high voltage area.

the error can come from:

e-print-pip burn from filters. in addition to changing the ozone filter once per month or 200,000 impressions, be sure to check the gray or yellow hose that connects the scorotron to the filter. this hose can have a lot of slack and has the possibility of getting a kink. if the kink is severe, very little particulate will be sucked away from the scorotron thus creating pip burn. if the hose has too much slack, simply disconnect, trim a bit away and reconnect. mike hay mossberg digital --the indigo technical group writes the problem of burning marks on the pip is due to the ozone leftovers in the scorotron. this is why they show as two horizontal marks the shape of the scorotron chambers. the problem is known to indigo and we communicated it to our field service engineers. to reduce the problem you should do the following: 1. replace the carbon filter inside the vme cabinet during the routine pm. 2. check that the scorotron suction fan is working during printing. 3. check that the yellow tygon hose connecting the scorotron to the vme or pc cabinet is not getting kinked when the cabinet is closed. if it is, cut one inch at a time and check if the problem is solved. 4. if the above items will not help, it is recommended to lift the scorotron to the up position when machine is not printing. indigo is currently testing a solution that will lift the scorotron automatically so that the operator will not have to do it manually. if the test is successful, an fco will be done on all machines that suffer from the problem the indigo technical department because of this problem, indigo is working on a disengage for the scorotron unit. the only element in the list that is practical is the scorotron. we don't have any open issue with the other elements so they are more theoretical then practical. all location are in millimeters and measured from lead edge of the sheet. the basic assumption is that the machine is parking at the default angle of 248 degrees. since the machine is not parking exactly at the desired 248 deg angle, all values are "about" what you should expect. pte 21 squeegee 55 reverse roller 85 wetting roller 116 developer 174 scorotron 302, 320 cs 411 nehemia kadosh

skylar, what i do is just take the scorotron all the way out! after i was having pip burns every 17,000 imps. i think our problem was the reason we finally got to the bottom of the real problem. even after i changed the carbon filter, i still had one more pip get burned by just lifting the scorotron bar. by taking it out i am averaging about 46,000 imps. i hope this helps. good luck, robbie king

i've learned from experience the importance of cleaning the scorotrons weekly. they corrode easily and eventually will give you bias errors because of the build up on the inside walls. to replace a scorotron after warranty is expensive. $2000+ on an ultra

i have just installed a brand new corona wire and bobbin. it has worked for a couple of days, but now it has broken 5 times. is there a possibilty that this corona wire is bad. also the day i put it on, i had to do it twice because it was breaking.i have one on order that should be in by monday, but i wanted to know if anybody else had this same problem.robbie king

yep, and i was in the midst of fixing mine again when your message appeared. couple of things to check - that blue bridge gets worn and grooved, and can cause breaks in the wire. the plastic rails for the grids can get oily and not clean out with ipa, run a piece of 100# cover stock in all the channels to clear any potential shorting oil outta there. there's a screw that adjusts slippage next to the bobbin, you might weaken it's tension. also the wheel halfway around the track can bind, or the sliding bar it's on - see if they're free.then prayer.good luck -kevin

i have found that the contacts are key in the scorotron connection causing constant wire breaking. there is a new connector coming. meantime, if they break in succession, try a washer inside of connector to extend the connector length. another factor is the female end the scorotron is pushed into. the ring type female connector inside of the housing could be loose. check that by disconnecting the 2 wire connectors and remove the 2 allens to get inside. carefully spread the male posts also. be careful not to break. frank
